Ryalux – Leading The Way at NFS 2009

Earlier this week I was in Harrogate presenting the Trend Seminars at The National Floor Show.  Sometimes the UK flooring industry seems as though it is continually looking in on itself rather than looking outwards for inspiration.  A true desire to forge aesthetic relationships with other interior products can seem lacking…but I was genuinely delighted to discover the stunning stand that Ryalux had created – colourful, considered, on-trend, intelligent and inspiring.   Quite simply…I think it was the best stand at The National Floor Show 2009.

The Ryalux stand acted as a ‘trend showcase’ to the rest of the industry, showing the way forward with their design-led company ethos.

Surrounded by a sea of beige in Hall B I took refuge on the Ryalux stand to learn more about the thinking behind their product development, marketing tools and the stands styling……

Creative Director – Darren Clanford and Head of Design – Sarah Ludlam lead the creative team.  Drawing inspiration from visits to international shows such as Heimtextil, Milan Furniture Fair and Maison et Objet they have dedicated themselves to developing product ranges that recognise and compliment the latest trends in furniture, fabric, lighting and home accessories.  As Darren stated – “we don’t design in isolation.”  This connection between flooring and other interior products is one that few of Ryalux’s industry peers seem to make.

I was impressed that the team had been confident enough in their product offer to place quite bold and contemporary furniture on their stand.  There is always the risk that the ‘props’ might outshine the main product…but it was a harmonious balance.

Darren Clanford had been super-smart in his furniture selection; introducing vintage pieces, interesting textures and curvaceous shapes which gave recognition to the coming interior trends.  The stand area was divided into room sets via a patchwork of cutting-edge carpets…

Urban grey tweed sofas, super-synthetic bright accents on pillows and a vintage G-Plan coffee table……the look is completed by luxurious deep pile carpeting in bright tropical shades.  This is Industrial Glamour at it’s best!

Wingback armchairs, upholstered especially for the show, in bright jewel tones and mirrored cubes sit spectacularly on a striped carpet:

Curvaceous retro-futuristic seating in deep plum, pink and concrete grey surround a hexagon table……the look is completed by uber-shag pile carpeting in sumptuous berry-stain shades:
